It may be possible to get a public housing apartment called HDB (Housing Board Development), It is important that you rent an APPROVED HDB apartment as there are many unapproved ones.

To tell whether the HDB apartment is approved or not, ask the agent or advertiser. If the "agent" tells you that "one room is locked" that means you cannot use that room. The Singapore Government presently disallows renting of the whole unit, without its approval in writing.
