The rectal tissue has turned brownish red and necrotic.
Rectal
prolapse in a Cat
An
early rectal prolapse in the cat is bright red in colour. It can
slip back into the body and come out again. It is an emergency. Consult Your Vet
quickly.
Blood
and bright red tissue coming out of rectum irritates this male cat.
It may pull out more tissue.
Under
anaesthesia, the prolapsed tissue slips back into body. Loose anal
opening. This 4-year-old male cat has loose stools most of the
time.
Excessive
oil and granules from both anal sacs. Could excessive licking of
the obstructed anal sacs contribute to rectal prolapse?
A
purse-string suture circling the anal opening to close up the
anus.
Last
suture. Two ends will be tied to prevent rectal prolapse. The
rectum may prolapse if the sutures are removed too early.
Suture remains at 4th day but was removed on the 6th day as the cat
was passing motion. The cat recovered.
The
normal anal opening is tight as can be seen in this 6-month old
male cat. The anus is below the tail.
I took these images in 2002 and
they are not as sharp as in 2010 when I upgrade to better cameras
and learn more about digital photography.
Rectal
prolapse in a Puppy
I will get the picture later as
it is somewhere in my websites.
Diarrhoea for several days or weeks may lead to rectal
prolapse in your puppy. Consult your vet early to prevent this
serious problem
