Glamorous Vets, Singapore, sponsored by AsiaHomes Internet. The hamster with a large subcutaneous lump Was this hamster three years old? The pre-teen owners did not know. He looked young. He was involved in hamster fights and now had this over four cm diameter lump under his skin. The hard lump irritated him. He tried to get rid of it by rubbing onto the cage but it would not dissolve. Was it a hardened abscess or a tumour? Only a biopsy would tell. If the hamster was three years old, it would be aged as the life span of a hamster is three years. There was no point in operating. If it was younger, the large under-the-skin lump could be removed but the hamster might bite or remove all the skin stitches after surgery, causing a big hole in the skin. So it was not good to operate and it was irritating to the hamster if the lump was not removed. What can be done? There was no point in preaching about the need for early treatment. The hamster was given medication and that might relieve the itch but not cure the problem. |
