No vet for me.
Many dog owners say that their pet dog starts to shiver or refuse to get out of the car as
they reach any veterinary surgery. They can smell the vet a mile away.
Amigo is a gentle black Labrador cross with a luxuriant coat. He does not bark at
anyone with his owner. He has the best premium dog food and plenty of love.
He guards the factory during the night.
His skin problem began with the continual scratching of the edge of one ear. Then he
continued to bite his back legs and soon the front legs. But he would not do it in
front of his owner. The hair had no chance to re-grow.
Amigo was more worried about the
vet than his skin itch, as you can see from his face.
"He seems to be very itchy. Give him another injection, doc," said Mr Lim.
Could he have developed mange, a skin condition where skin mites multiply all over the
legs, ears and the rest of the body?
Amigo's eye discharge of pus was unusual. He was not sick. Was there something nasty
in the new factory?
Pus from eyes is not normal in a
healthy dog.
His Owner had acquired a factory premises and Amigo had to guard this place.
Amigo preferred to run back to his old premises
whenever he could.
Was there some chemicals or corrosive oil in the engine repair factory?
"No point giving injections and antibiotics all the time. |
He might be suffering from a skin allergy caused by
contaminants or chemicals on the floor of the new factory," explained Dr Foo.
His coat was clipped short. A big Elizabeth collar
was given. Regular washing and antibiotics for 20 days.
Newspapers to cover up the floors were advised to prevent contact allergy but Amigo
disliked sleeping on the Straits Times and would push them away. The owner would not put
him in a cotton coat. What would be the other options?
"I better not leave him in the new factory.
It took over 12 weeks but Amigo now has a big coat of hair.
However, every time he sees Dr Foo, no matter how interested he was in Dr Foo's female dog
patients, he will just turn around and rush back to his factory.
He just can't stand another injection. He certainly looked like a mangy dog and had he not
been removed from the irritating floor of the new factory, he would be another one of
those rapidly declining number of hairless pruritic mongrels wandering around the
industrial park.
As for Amigo, he did not need to worry about dog pound people, but only the vet. His
beloved owner could not command him to come out if Dr Foo was with his owner.
Just in case, he gets another injection. He is not stupid, you know!
