A 3-month-old puppy passing bloody diarrhoea for several days before bringing to the vet has a very slim chance of recovery despite treatment as the puppy goes into shock and sepsis. The bacteria spreads toxin to the body organs like the kidneys and brain. This puppy is into its 3rd day of treatment using injections of dextrose saline, salt and antibiotics. The blood in the intestine has gone but the puppy is extremely weak and looks unlikely to survive.     
   

2.5 months old. Bought from pet shop. Said to be a miniature Shih Tzu.  Diarrhoea 5 days. Active for few minutes, eat food and then lie down for the rest of the day. 
There is a strong characteristic smell of blood in the stools. No worm eggs seen on examination.
Recumbent when brought to the vet. Had diarrhoea and possibly vomiting for past few days. Rectal temperature dropped to as low as 36.6C Gums all dry and red, indicating severe dehydration. 
Day 1. 2 hours after dextrose saline and antibiotic injection. Looks active.  Six hours later, down
Day 2.  2 hours after dextrose saline and antibiotic injection. Looks active again. Wants to drink. However, diarrhoea occurs again. Day 3 of veterinary care. Puppy's diarrhoea has stopped but it is very weak. It can stand a while and then back itself to a corner with head up.
