The cat could
not meow
"My cat just open its mouth but she could not meow. What could be
the cause of her problem? What should I do?" The cat meowed
every morning for her food and the silence of the open mouth was much
noticed.
It would be hard to give a telephone diagnosis. Dedicated primary
Singapore teachers do lose their voice as they teach over 40 students
per class. For this cat, I did not think she was meowing too much as she
was a spayed cat.
When I examined the cat, her breadth stank. Bad breadth of the
type in which tissues rotted. There was a large ulcer of around 8
mm in diameter near the back of the mouth, below the right upper tooth
(none seen in the picture on the left . Antibiotics were given for
ten days but the cat took them for two days. It was difficult for most
Singapore owners to medicate the cat using oral tablets. The meowing
voice came back but it was a shrill one. The vocal cords must be
infected by bacteria.
The cat's right upper molar was decayed. She had lost most of her teeth
although she was estimated to be eight years old. Tartar deposits were
removed from her lower molars.
She had lost one eye when she was adopted. It looked like some
kind people had sent her for surgery to remove an infected eyeball as
the lids of the eye were joined.
As to the cause of the bad breadth, it would be hard to tell. The cat
did go down every morning. Could she have stepped on some corrosive
liquid? Or was it the bacteria from the decayed tooth spreading
all over the mouth, causing stomatitis (mouth inflammation)?
Her left ear tip was snipped off to indicate to the government
authorities that she was spayed by a veterinarian and there was the
Owner's trust that the government pound people would spare her from
being put in the cat compound.
However, letting the cat out of the house exposes her to various risks
of being killed by vehicles, poisoned or caught by wicked people.
It would be hard to change her habit of going downstairs every
day. It would be much traumatic if she did not return
home.
