Wednesday, July 26, 2000 1.45pm Meet at Sheraton Towers High floor and plenty of closet space. Expat wife weary of looking for housing but saw 3 good apartments in The Claymore, The Draycott and Highpoint. 2pm Condo The Claymore Blk B, 4+1 3,300 sq. ft $12,500. Full condo facilities. ...-02 above 15th floor. Original condition and layout. View of Highpoint and Scotts 28 condos in the distance. Rectangular marbled top bar counter dominates the spacious marbled-floored living area. Appeared outdated and clumsy like a post-mortem table. To the left is the spacious dining area. Balcony off the living area has the dark brown ceramic tiles. Same with kitchen walls. Kitchen with big windows. 2 bedrooms have attached long baths and 2 share a bathroom. Powder room has dark brown bath tub and WCs. 3 white long baths. 2 bathroom counter tops with dual white basins. 2 bedrooms have attached baths and two share a common bathroom. NO separate shower stall. Audio-visual intercom. 2.10pm Condo The Claymore Blk A, 3+1 2,700 sq. ft $10,000 ...-01 above 10th floor. View of buildings. Excited by well planned renovated condo and good quality painting. Powder room left of private lift lobby and all bathrooms in Italian marble flooring (streaks and blobs of maroon, white colours) Bar counter removed giving a possible study area off the living room or hifi area. Big squarish white Italian marble floor tiles to all rooms give a high class feel. Bedrooms are carpeted. Deep pink curtains suggestive of a feminine hand in the furnishing, did not appeal to Caucasian expat. One bedroom has deep blue curtains and carpets. False ceilings with track lights at the long narrow entry lobby to the living area. All 3 bedrooms have this long and narrow passage. No false ceiling in the dining area as air conditioning air flows from the one in the living area. The kitchen has Corrian fiberglass counter top incorporating a sink. Light brown new kitchen cabinets. The balcony has similar Italian marble floor tiles too, giving a sense of continuity and good design. The common bathroom wall appeared to be unrenovated as it has the original dark brown ceramic tiles characteristc of The Claymore kitchen wall tiles. Overall bright. |
2.30pm Condo Highpoint 4th floor 4+1 3,000 sq. ft $9,000 inclusive of American Club membership. View of The Elizabeth Hotel and some trees. Pool and playground only. 2 units. Original layout of Highpoint: Powder room with blue tiled walls, sunken living area and a small balcony. A family area next to the living area. The master bedroom has a long bath. 2 other bedrooms share a narrow bathroom with shower. Main complaint is that the kitchen is dark if it is positioned between the maid's room and the utility area. Exciting renovation of this unit. 100% renovated. Light brown homogeneous tiles to all rooms. The family area is walled off with glass blocks facing the living area and becomes a study room or 4th bedroom. There is no more balcony. The dining area and kitchen are one, i.e an open concept kitchen bringing in the natural daylight. On the dining area, there is the bar counter. To the right recess, there is the stainless steel hood and kitchen sink. Washer, dryer and dishwasher are incorporated in the kitchen cabinets. The maid's room has good quality earth-coloured ceramic tiles and white WCs and shower. There is no more separate utility area. The master bathroom has black granite tiles and counter top. The common bathroom has glossy maroon wall tiles and a short long bath or shower tray. Overall design was attractive. The interior is beautiful and compensates for the lack of privacy as guests from The Elizabeth Hotel can see the occupants. The 2 examples show how an old condo can still be made attractive with a good interior designer.
