terminating all construction work by 6 p.m?" emailed a harassed
Caucasian expatriate who swore he would never live next to a
construction site no matter how cheap the rent would be.
Advices to

Choose units where the living room and bedrooms do not face the
construction site or vacant piece of land.
According to the Environmental Public Health Act, the noise
level at construction sites should not exceed 75 decibels (dBA)
from 7 a.m to 7 p.m and should not exceed 65 dBA from 7 p.m. to
7 a.m.
Offenders can be fined up to $2,000 for breaching the rules and
a further fine of $100 for every day the offence continues after
conviction. The authorities can order construction work to be
suspended if finds it causing a serious public health problem.
An normal conversation
would be 45 to 50 dBA while a pneumatic drill making holes in
the road can be as loud as 100 dBA.
