2.30pm Meet at Wing On Life Garden 3pm D 10. Holland Grove Drive bungalow + pool. 5+1 6,600/4,500 sq. ft $17,000 New 2-storey bungalow with small pool in Holland Grove area. Less than 5 years old. Big attic room without bathroom may be used as a study. 4 bedrooms with attached baths on level 2. One bedroom with an attached bath downstairs. No grass as there is no sunlight. Insufficient garden space for 3 young children but will suit expats with grown up children. Great location with a huge number of Caucasian expats in this Holland Grove View enclave. The railings on level 2 may be a danger to small kids as they are inclined to climb up the circular loops and fall down to the living area. The Owner proposes a clear Perspex shield. The boomerang shaped pool is very near the living area, such that there is a feeling of walking straight into the pool. 4pm D.5 Faber Park bungalow + pool. 8,000/5,500 sq. ft $9,000. Octagonal shaped bungalow with triangular shaped pool. Sufficient small garden space for children. Family area and master bedroom have their balconies sealed off and the cement flooring decorated with a few tiles to bring "nature" in. There are railings overlooking the living area and these may be a problem for small kids squeezing their heads through. Perspex glass shielding may be the answer. A Caucasian enclave. Around 50 of such bungalows with pool. Rent used to be $15,000 in the boom days. Of the 3 bungalows with pool, Faber Park will be nearest to the subway, if the husband has no car. 3.30pm D.10. Cluny Hill bungalow + pool. 4+1 20,000/5,000 sq. ft $16,000 Expats who prefer 40-year-old type colonial bungalows or those black and white. Grey roof tiles not impressive but once you enter the premises, all Caucasian expats |
love its
rambling grassland, big pool and the spacious PATIOS off the light brown
marbled living and separate dining areas. Bathrooms renovated with white long baths and the use of light grey ceramic tiles. Such pastel colours suit Caucasian culture. One basement bedroom with light yellow ceramic tiles and bathroom. Above the living area, 2 bedrooms on one side and the master bedroom is on the other side. The master has a view of a good-sized pool and a house construction which is said to be completed in 6 months' time. The kitchen has an orange black counter top. Stainless steel sink, cooker hood and hob. Two big store or maid's room outside a utility area. One room can be used to accommodate the Senior Maid, joked the Tenant, while the other will be for the subordinate. She will have 3 small kids. Surprisingly, no bedrooms or family area have railings overlooking downstairs, so there is no worry about child safety. Brightness is moderate. The Cluny Hill area is only for the super-rich. There was a police patrol car going round the area and a guard at a house nearby. Most expats do fall in love with this house but have second thoughts on seeing the construction. Expats who don't mind waiting for 6 months for the construction to complete, will find this house with its spacious bedrooms, squarish living and dining areas a pleasure to bring up a family. Green trees everywhere. Cow grass from all sides except the front entrance. Clean country air although you are a 5-min drive to Orchard Road. Botanic Gardens just at the door step and the fragrance of flowers, the chirping of birds. Where in Singapore will you find such a house with a big pool and big garden for $16,000? Conclusion: Child safety is the primary concern. The railings and the open pool are risky to toddlers. The pool can be fenced up. The Cluny Hill and Faber Park bungalows have the "big" garden for this family.
