She's a tall elegant English lady, soft-spoken and was anxious to go back to Holland after a short stay. She was diagnosed as having aortic aneurysm after she was home. "Don't you know aortic aneurysm is a dangerous condition and should be given priority for surgery?" Yes, Michael's wife nodded. They had known from the internet. It was just 10 months ago and now she's gone. The sadness is that Michael can afford to get her the best private surgeon in the world. But Mum has faith in the Dutch welfare system where everybody must wait their turn for surgery. It is hard to believe that rich people have to wait their turns. Michael would have died in this system as his kidney growth was just encroaching on the major renal artery. Once it grows into the artery, he would have had died, said his surgeon. It was fortunate that he came to Singapore to set up an office. A fever led to discovery of the kidney tumour. His mum may have lived longer than the 77 years but nobody knows. Money cannot buy everything, but it surely can get Mum the best surgeon in the developed world.
